India urges its citizens to leave Iran as security situation evolves
India has urged all its citizens in Iran to leave the country “by all available means of transport, including commercial flights”. The fresh advisory was issued on Monday, February 23, by the Indian Embassy in Tehran, citing an “evolving security situation” in the Islamic Republic.
The message also applies to PIOs, or Persons of Indian Origin.
What the embassy is asking people to do now
In its advisory, the embassy told Indian nationals and PIOs to take extra precautions. It asked them to avoid areas where protests or demonstrations may be taking place.
The embassy also urged people to stay in contact with officials and follow local media for updates. The guidance is aimed at helping citizens react quickly if conditions change.
Keep key documents ready
The advisory includes a practical instruction. Indian nationals have been asked to keep travel and immigration documents readily available.
That includes passports and identity documents. The embassy said citizens should contact the mission for assistance if needed.
Emergency numbers and email shared
The embassy published emergency contact details for those seeking help:
Mobile numbers: +989128109115; +989128109109; +989128109102; +989932179359
Email: cons.tehran@mea.gov.in
Registration urged for those not yet on record
The embassy also called on Indian nationals who have not registered to do so through the Ministry of External Affairs portal.
The registration link provided in the advisory is: https://www.meaers.com/request/home
For Indian citizens in Iran, the key message is clear. Leave when possible, avoid protest areas, keep documents ready, and stay in touch with the embassy as the situation develops.
